Antique beautifully embroidered 19th century antique Chinese rank badge with two winged fish flanking a vase. Done in gold couching with embroidery on a soft dark blue silk background, with flowers done in white and tan, and with a spot of red on the gold fish. Backed in dark blue silk. In excellent antique as found condition at an estate auction -- the couching and embroidery are in excellent condition. Beautiful textile art! This would be a nice addition to a rank badge collection and to display as art.
The double fish symbol is regarded as one of the eight treasures and is usually embroidered onto door curtains and pillowcases for good luck. The double fish symbol is both a protective amulet and an enhancer of good chi. Double fish were part of Buddah's footprints.
Badge Measures: 11.5" x 8" approximately.
